It's not some naff teeny-rock band, it's not a particularly funny episode of Family Guy, it's certainly not a calamitously over-hyped American President, and neither is it the slowest route imaginable Townsend Street to Enniskerry...
No folks, this 44 refers to (drum roll) Connected's latest issue.
Our 44th effort to introduce great new music, our 44th reasonably proud moment, and my 44th attempt at a witty intro...
(How's it going so far?? No? I concur...)
Anyway we'll try not to get bogged down in...
numbers (the mismanagement of which has us all counting our coppers) and concentrate instead on things showing stronger signs of Health. Our cover story for starters... (what a link, eh? A truly momentous moment for the English language I'd say) these Los Angeles based noise merchants and their tech-savvy independent outlook really gets a cheer from us – you could do a lot worse than look to these guys for inspiration if you're planning to do things that little bit differently. Doing things differently is pretty much the same ol' story for the next intrepid tinkler we thrust a flashing red record button upon. Berlin resident Tim Exile (whose drool inducing off-the-cuff live remixing has to be seen to be believed) talks boundaries, definitions and remixes – and why they suck. And there's no shortage of Irish innovation either, with Alias Empire's electro tinged output soaring from the shackles of their misnomer-ish former title 'Dry County' – welcome aboard lads. Others heralded in the hysterical hubris of our Three To Watch section include Howl – prog rockers with a purpose – and Straglers – back in the saddle as a four piece with a live/visual show so good you might find yourself with an embarrassing wet patch below the waist line. Seriously.Elsewhere we tackle the touchy subject of professional PR, a 'hell never' for some, a heaven sent for others – we take a look from an insider's point of view and chit the chat with the charming Emma Harney. Online we've made great leaps forward with our (soon to be redesigned) free Irish Music Industry directory, check it out and if you're not listed, mail us and we'll sort it. Sound. Niall Turner
