Issue 43

issue-43_cover_web.jpgFrom this season of swan songs, a sibling style springs. Bucking trends, endeavouring to make amends, for our dear departed comrades... No Event Guide, no State, only that rag that I hate (which is about as useful and relevant as rickets). But we can't let this year, subside our cheer,
there's still plenty to keep spirits afloat...

Yes the establishment powers, are just a shower of gougers, incompetent crooks to a man. Fleecing the nation, hanging on to their privy station, like a shitball clings to a shoe. But we must turn the tables, rid ourselves of the disabled, to lead, inform or entertain – for if we don't we're all doomed, to the PR fed ruin of 'Sony/ Universal presents!!!' for ever, and ever, and... Yes it has been a tough start to the '09 and it's gonna get worse before better but, personally speaking, I've been in a 'challenging financial situation' for, ooh, about 43 issues now (and before that as a student, and before that as plain old 'lower middle class', so, yeah, fairly financially screwed from day one really) and have still managed to have a proper good time while I'm at it, so, a bit of perspective and all that... Please.

One good thing about all these doom and gloom forecasts is their ability to focus the mind on
what's really important... no longer am I trying to simultaneously set up multiple music shows for the tele, get 17 dozen festivals off the ground, record labels, clubnights, gigs and a whole host of other stuff – just one tent at one festival, this mag and connected.ie, that's it... (well, and dirt ridden fidget-house tunes in the evenings and weekends – with precisely 215 seconds ever second Sunday set aside for the GF*).

So anyway, where was I... oh yeah: Fo...cus..., eh, nice flippy thing on the cover isn't it? Yes we felt we were rather due an ol' face lift, and we've a rake of new sections squeezed in there too
– a 'what worked for me' industry interview, kicked started by my favourite deadline dodger Donal Dineen, Three To Watch (fairly self explanatory), DJ charts, and the uber useful 'Tools, Toys, & Techniques' which'll keep you up to speed on the latest gear and techknow how. Beats rickets anyway. Hope you enjoy. *(that's a joke, honey) Niall Turner
