Amy Quirke gives us the run down for November in Mullingar... (main pic Giveamanakick)
It’s fair to say it was a quiet month for local artists and musicians in Mullingar this November. With the build up to Christmas and the Stables 20th Anniversary in December, there has to be some calm before the storm! The Stables however bucked the trend with a gaggle of national and international acts appearing at the venue, including former keyboard player with Van Halen, Rich Wyman. Also appearing were Damien Dempsey, Audrey Ryan, The Grudge (Tool tribute band) Fred and Sinnerboy, (Rory Gallagher tribute band) Limerick outfit Giveamanakick stopped off at The Stables this month, to perform one of their last shows before finally hanging up their guitars. Support on the night came from locals Neon Tetras who got their foot in the door to Mullingars flourishing live scene through SuperKidd Promotions. The midlands busiest event promoters SuperKidd Promotions hosted their last gig of the year at The Stables on the 28th of November. Performing at the free all ages gig were Dublin based Pedro for President and singer / songwriter Bribry. Local band Realisation took to the stage before Mullingar native Darragh J Glennon (pictured) finished up the day. Glennon is currently in the process of recording his forth coming EP entitled Empty Streets, which is due for release in late January 2010. The EP will be a follow up to his debut album Detour that he released in July of this year, which earned him two top ten-download singles in the independent Irish download chart.
Mullingar’s only underground club night brought an end to the month of November at The Stables. The once a month residency DJ night aims to bring Irelands best DJ’s to Mullingar. Resident DJ’s include: Jason Carroll and Ger Hutchinson.
Continuing their weekly residency at John Macs Café bar this month were The Shy Talks. The Shy Talks are a band you must check out if you like diverse music with a flare. From Alice in Chain cover songs to jazz and trad compositions. Also at John Macs throughout November and this coming December is a Saturday night DJ night. Special guest DJ’s include, Today FM’s Alison Curtis and The Blizzards members Aidan Lynch and Niall Breslin. Local DJ’s includes The Pinball Wzard, The Hof and Calvey Harris.
Debuting their first headline gig in Mullingar this month were Seven Days (pic below). They performed live at Danny Byrnes throughout the month with support coming from Dublin singer/songwriter Eoin Glackin. Hailing from Kildare but with an exceptional drummer from Mullingar in their stride, Seven days are a band to watch out for. In other Mullingarian news…
The Stables venue celebrate their 20th anniversary this coming December with events spanning over two days at the venue. The stables will be awash with local artists such as Innate and Autofly. Many more acts are yet to be confirmed. The celebratory events will be held on December 20th and December 23rd. Sunday December 6th in Mullingar. The streets will be pedestrianised to allow food and craft stalls. Four live music stages will be erected throughout the town with acts, Arrow in the Sky, Innate, Crimson and Seven Days, with many more to be confirmed. For any bands out there looking to showcase their talent throughout the midlands, SuperKidd promotions are currently filling up their calendar for 2010 and would love to hear from bands that would be interested in working with them. With a twist of hope, a dash of industry hatred, and a pitcher of
Nightflight, D-light; tools and toys, Clockwork Noise; some Bitches, one Bob and a Tubelord... Reader’s Wives, Supafast jives, and the ever present Sounds Of System Breakdown... Yes as we near the end of lap one of Ireland’s race to the bottom; the pits, indeed, have claimed many – and as we ponder the frugal future of publishing, pink skinned from slaps aplenty, it’s amazing what sights are now glimpsed around the next bend...

Michael Jackson, MTV, Hiroshima. Yes August certainly has a lot to answer
Ninth year, times the fifth month = our 45th issue. Freaky... Meant to be? A lazy intro?? 50/50 I'd say... (I'll start again then, shall I?) First sun, second wind, and two of Ireland's finest... Yes, traditionally May gives way for a lighter brand of lunacy. Midnight mischief dons her backpack and shades, as the doom and gloom fades, and flirts her way to a festive fumble. Ditching larks in the dark, she's set to make her
It's not some naff teeny-rock band, it's not a particularly funny episode of Family Guy, it's certainly not a calamitously over-hyped American President, and neither is it the slowest route imaginable Townsend Street to Enniskerry...

From this season of swan songs, a sibling style springs. Bucking trends, endeavouring to make amends, for our dear departed comrades... No Event Guide, no State, only that rag that I hate (which is about as useful and relevant as rickets). But we can't let this year, subside our cheer,

If Jungle was massif and Drum and Bass punctuated your summer of love, chances are, your bass was brought by Bukem.
Peter: "We explained politely that we are doing more to encourage, sustain and
develop homegrown music in this country than they are, on a fraction of

But the writhing mass explodes for the fast-food themed party-ode 'Down at McDonnelzz', surging forward during 'Dirty Ball' and love-song-to-electronics 'Synthesiser' in desperate hope of feeling even the slightest touch of Valentine's pimp-ish pinstripes.
