Issue 48

Connected: a magazine with a fanzine’s heart – forever seeking new music and gigs we like thecover-issue-48front.jpg look of; and steering clear of the same old suspects, covered by everyone else, all the time...  Populist photocopying – while no doubt pretty and a great way to parlay – is not the objective here. This winds some people up no end. We couldn’t care less. Self important? Silver spooned?

Wrong and wrong again (anyone who remembers our tremendous folded-piece-of-paper first issue will surely tell you that) just a couple of randomers (and anyone who’d like to help) on a positive piss take of those we dig; with barely a word wasted on those we don’t – misinterpreting and misinforming, or spouting spiteful dribble, is not something we’d like to be responsible for (well, except maybe Steve).

No, combin(g)ing music and events (and horrifying English Lit profs and ‘serious’ journos along the way, no doubt) is our buzz – and we’ll stick to that, thanks very much.  (Correct. That IS called a widow.) Anyway, one such gig to have some old fashioned craic at, while dancing away to some decidedly non-radio-friendly tunes, takes pride of place this month of meteorological misery.  DEAF – Dublin Electronic Arts Festival – returns for its eight outing, featuring a seriously impressive array of local and international acts, exhibitions and more. We’ve been lucky enough to get a load of free tickets for this and you can find them up for grabs in the competition section of our (still facelift free) website, connected.ie (hey, blagging works, but it can take a lot longer than expected...).

Elsewhere there’s some Psyches, Phunklore and a Perkins (oh God, here he goes again). A Fake, some Furs and a Felix. A whopper 303, a devastating Tu-Ki, and a Twix for everyone in the audience... Candy Collective are also in the house, bringing us news of their next SweetTalk event – providing a platform for local and international creatives, this is one crew we have a lot of admiration for... Speaking of admiration, it is with a great sense of loss that we mourn the passing of a truly inspirational individual – Robert Stringer – who we interviewed just before his travels and pay tribute to this issue. RIP Rob. Niall Turner
